Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a way for members to receive a variety of freshly picked, local vegetables and fruits each week. By making a financial commitment to a farm, people become “members” (or “shareholders”) of the CSA. These upfront payments help buy the seed and other inputs needed for the season and provides the farmer an immediate income to begin the season.
All members are also required to work a certain number of volunteer hours per season.
Flatbush Community Harvest (FCH) is a CSA based in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Our mission is to make local, sustainably-grown produce available to any Brooklyn resident, regardless of economic circumstances. Which is enabled by our sliding scale price structure. We are entirely volunteer run, so your member dollars go directly to the farmers we partner with, less the minimum costs required to make the CSA work.
Membership is a commitment to purchase from our farmer and to volunteer at least 4-hours over the course of the season (during distribution or by doing other pre-arranged tasks). We operate entirely on volunteer labor, so your commitment to participate is vital! By becoming a member, you are making an investment in The Farm at Miller’s Crossing and your community by supporting local, sustainable agriculture, enjoying fresh organic produce, and helping to make it more accessible to all community members.
You can choose to purchase a single or double share of produce. A single share feeds approximately 2-3 people; a double share feeds 4-6 people, depending on how much you eat. Each share size consists of 7-10 different vegetables or herbs and varies in size and content over the course of the season.
The Farm at Miller’s Crossing provides our vegetable share and is about 127 miles away near Hudson, in upstate NY. Samascott Orchards is our fruit provider, supplying us with local and seasonal fruit all summer long. McMurry's Sunset Farm provides us with farm fresh eggs and honey.
The vegetables are certified organic. The fruit is as close to organic as is possible in this region ("for the majority of our farm we follow low-spray & IPM* practices").
Yes! It will vary from one season to another, but we typically have fruit, eggs, and other items. We get these from different farmers and providers who are also local and cultivate their products responsibly. Eggs, honey, and other shares are a single price for all.
See our Current Season Info page.
We do not offer delivery. Everyone commits to picking up their share every Saturday morning from 10:00 – 11:15 am (timing may change slightly year to year). We cannot hold shares or deliver them to you. Whatever is not picked up during distribution is donated to the local community fridge or for other local, community based events.
Our pickup site is in the Flatbush neighborhood located near the Cortelyou and Beverley Q subway stations. Once you join, we will let you know the precise location. For returning members, this is the same location as last year
Picking up your share on time is part of your member commitment; if you do not do so, your food will be donated to the local community. If you go on vacation, you can have someone else pick up for you, but you also have the comfort of knowing that your food will not go to waste if no one picks up.
